African myths are mixed into traditions and beliefs in many of its communities.
Many of these traditions are older than similar European ones. This raises the question of where so many well-known stories and myths from Western culture came from. Magic is everywhere.
In most African cultures history and beliefs are part of oral traditions and storytelling. These stories are an important part of African life. They include themes like magic, ancestral spirits, celestial beings, and unusual creatures. Furthermore, these themes point out the diversity and wealth of African culture, showing us how the people of the continent make sense of the material and spiritual world around them.
From goblins to vampires, mermaids to behemoths, African myths have them all.
We’ve created African Mythological Creatures as an ongoing series of prints and books. They will be available to buy soon.
